Dovbush Trail is named after Oleksa Dovbush, the leader of the Carpathian rebels. The Opryshky movement is the protest movement against tycoons which existed between the 16th and 19th centuries. Peasants escaping from wealthy persons to the mountains usually found a shelter in inaccessible areas and performed brave attacks on rich men. Dovbush was called "Carpathian Robin Hood" because he robbed tycoons and distributed their property among peasants.
The trail starts near the Dovbush Rock along the Lviv – Mukachevo highway, 2.5 km (west of)Yaremche railway station. The trail is located in the protected area called Dribka. It passes through legendary places related to Oleksa Dovbush and the opryshky (rebel) movement which existed from 1738 to 1745.
Passing the checkpoint, visitors walk on a forest path and gradually enter a mixed beech-fir-spruce forest. They also can see handmade stone sculptures dedicated to local rebels.
Dovbush Trail is located on the right bank of the Prut River. Here you can visit the unique sandstone rocks with caves which formed 35 million years ago. There is also a beautiful view of the Prut River Canyon. Relict pine, which is present here as well, is very special, because it is the oldest of all species and it is an indicator of pure fresh air.
Caves are the most interesting feature of the trail. According to the legend the trunks with Oleksa Dovbush’s gold are hidden there. An entrance to the cave is visible only once a year the night before Ivana Kupala holiday. This holiday is celebrated on July 7. Unfortunately, nobody is able to take treasures since they are enchanted. A person who takes treasure from the cave will turn into a stone as soon as the gold shines in the moon.
