Khomiak Mountain (1542 m) is located in the Horhany ridge, the part of the Carpathians where the mountain peaks have steep slopes covered with stony placers called Horhany. The local people say that the name of Khomiak Mountain, which means “hamster” in English, is associated with the alpine marmot (hamster) which used to live in this area. The shape of the mountain also reminds us of this animal. Hiking to the top will allow you to enjoy the beauty and magnitude of the Carpathians, where the natural genuineness has been kept.

Spruce and silver fur predominate here. Elm trees also grow in this area. The plantations age is from 60 to 80 years. Due to increase of altitude the vegetation becomes poorer. Going further through the curved forest of mountain pine and juniper thickets you will finally reach the top of the mysterious Khomiak Mountain, where huge rocky boulders are covered with grey and red lichens.
