The Huk Waterfall is one of the most picturesque natural sites of the Horhany mountain range. It is located in the nature region of Zhenets in an altitude of 900 m. The water falls down by a heavy flow from a height of 15 meters. Local people call it Huk which means noise, because of the loud roaring sound produced by the waterfall.
You can reach the waterfall by visiting the nature-discovery trail leading to the waterfall. It starts near the Zhenets Nature-Protection and Scientific-Research of the Carpathian National Nature Park close to the central motorway before Tatariv village.
This route is also a good example for researching and learning the impact of global warming on the ecosystem.
There are predators which feed on small river animals. These are the Eurasian river otter, European mink and stoat. On the way to the waterfall visitors can also meet foxes and the Carpathian squirrel. Reptiles found here include the common European viper. Amphibians are represented by the fire salamander. The Zhenets River is full of brown trout and minnows.
There is a wooden cafe located on the right from the main road which invites visitors to taste traditional Hutsul dishes.
Then, the stone road finishes. Along the path through the bridges, you move to the final point of the route – Huk waterfall.
The vegetation is very lush and diverse due to constant moisture and water splashes. The waterfall is strong and a natural source of negatively charged ions, that is why it is both useful and pleasant to stay there.
Having enjoyed a beauty of the waterfall and adjacent landscapes and recovering themselves at the rest zones, visitors can learn more about the importance of litter separation and start separating their trash directly at the trail.
